Stupid printer
Yes, exams again. Seems to be the only time I find time for this thing. Either that or assignments. Have finally finished the practical component for this semester, which I just found out are only worth 25% of my mark. For something that we spend 10 hours per week (thats not including the work done before going, or the time spent writing the weekly reports, which easily makes up another 3-5 hours a week), and in which we have to get 65% in, I don’t think thats a very fair alotment of marks. This means I have to do pretty well in my exams if I’m going to get a passing grade and my exam record is not all that great.
I did manage to get through Japanese though, I’m not sure if I passed yet, but the assessment is all out of the way. I think I should have scraped through. I’m not going to do it next semester though, I really struggled to find the time to study the vocab this semester with all the chemistry work I was doing (not to mention fallout, prince of persia and dead space). Fallout is good by the way, I’ve put it to the side for a week or two now while I finished some of my work off, and became a master light seed collector, but I still think I want to get the DLC when I can spare the cash.
This always seems to come out as an extended dot point list of things that have happened in the last 3 months, which I always get sick of after two points. Other things have been happening, but maybe I’ll write about them in the next two weeks as exams get closer, and I feel like not studying even more.
The trouserless donald
So I got someone to show me how to find the dissociation energy for the ground state. But just because I have all my results, doesn’t mean the rest of the report is going to write itself. It’s getting a bit late though, maybe I can get it done tomorrow before we leave for Mannum (Manum?).
We were watching terminator:scc the other day, and the little girl was teaching john henry this song. Donald where’s your trousers. It sounded a lot better when john henry sang it, as opposed to this guy who is just strange. The point of the story is to watch the show.
Edit. The better one (with john henry) is here
Hit Return
Term 1 is almost over, with holidays starting on thursday. It has been a little bit busy but not so much that I haven’t been able to finish fable 2, and Gears 2 on co-op. My language learning is going ok I think. I still can’t say more than a couple of sentences, but I can sort of remember hiragana and katakana characters. I’ve got two chemistry pracs to write up by thursday before we leave, one of them on vibrational transitions of iodine which I’m a little stuck on, everything I’ve read via google has some slight variation on how they want to work out the dissociation energy for the ground state, which makes it hard when you’re trying to compare them, and work out your own method for doing it. Will have to ask someone about it tomorrow.
Oh, another waste of time thats come up in the last week. Zork is back. Not quite the same as it once was, but as a reminder it did it’s job and made me download the old text adventures again (I managed to lose them somewhere in between multiple windows reinstalls). This new one is ok for a small waste of time each day while you are avoiding homework, it only gives you 30 moves a day, so you can’t really get too far behind on your work, which is kind of a good thing.
Not a doctor
Finally started uni again for the year this week. So far it’s not too busy, next week is where it begins to pick up. Two five hour pracs for chem should keep me awake. But since chem was the only subject I was taking I decided to pick up a language to fill out my schedule to full-time load. So far I’ve only had two lessons, but it seems like it will be interesting for a little while. I’m supposed to be making hiragana flash cards for my ipod, but after the first 30 odd characters, print screen, paste, save gets a little tedious. There’s probably definitely a better way to do it, but I’m already half way through. I’ll think about it a bit harder when I start the katakana ones.
I went to see a cardiologist the other day. I’ve been getting my blood pressure checked since I had my wisdom teeth out last year and they told me it was a little high. My gp had me do a 24hr check thing, and sent me off to the specialist. I’m not a doctor, but how does the cardiologist checking me once and coming up with a bp reading in the normal range; negate the 5-6 other checks I’ve had in the past 6 months. According to the guy who only checked me once, the other high readings I’d been getting were all caused by stress, and only his recording took an accurate measurement, nothing to do with it varying at different times of day or anthing. Again, not a doctor, but if I was, I’d hope I would be a little more thorough than that.
Anyway, mum is paying for me to go to the gym and get some fit happening. We’ll have to give it some time before it’s decided whether or not this plan is going to work.
evidence of absence
I updated my wordpress again today, haven’t bothered finding a new layout yet, but I’ll get to it later. I went through my archives though while I was there, only to realise that I posted a whole five times through out the entire year of 2008. Not really the greatest of efforts. I can’t tell though whether the lack of posting has something to do with the lack of interesting things happening. I’m pretty sure 2008 wasn’t that boring, but how can I be sure?
Me and Jem have been staying later and later each night lately. We managed 4am last night, just watching House.
We’ve also started watching Big Bang Theory, and I’ve been watching Boodocks on my ipod. That show is awesome funny, but I haven’t heard if they’re going to make any more next year or not.
This wordpress is shit
I managed to scape through another year of uni, a pass and a credit for my whole two subjects. It doesn’t sound like much when you say it like that, but two subjects is actually a fair amount of work considering how much prac time I had to put in (and that everyone studying science puts in..who still do three subjects, but we’re not talking about them). Anyway, since I managed to pass Bio, that means I don’t have to do it again next year (this year even) and only have Chemistry to worry about. WHoo.
This whole repeating a subject thing is kind of funny in a way. Since I had to redo first year chem, its pushed my whole degree out of whack, so I get to do only one subject this year. Chem3 is only worth 6 units though, and to remain a full-time student I need to be doing 9 units. So I’m thinking about taking up a language or something to try and fill in those units (and the spare time I’ll be having). The only really stupid thing about this mess, is that Jemma will be finished her degree this year, while I still have another year to go. We still don’t know how thats going to work, teaching jobs are apparently a little hard to get in the city for a first year teacher, (or so everybody keeps telling us).
Anyway, serious stuff over, christmas and new year have just come and gone. Jemma got me an awesome 120gb ipod. So far I can only manage to fill 36gb, but I’ve taken two days to take all my music from disc and sort out the duplicates/album art etc so it comes up all awesome. Mum and dad helped pay for fixing my bike, and got me the Force Unleashed to kill some jedis. I think thats about all. Unless you want to hear me complain about family
stupid
I went to all the trouble of writing a post a couple of weeks ago, but somehow when I pushed publish it got itself sent to nowhere. School is coming to a close, only one more assignment due this friday, and then exams. Looking forward to finishing Biology, but its too bad that I still have two more years after this one. At least next year I’ll be able to concentrate on my chemistry and hopefully get some good marks.
I bought a motorbike a little while ago, its a Kawasaki GPX250, and its black. So good to finally have transport to and from uni that isn’t the bus. It turns out that its a bit more expensive than I would have first thought (its not just the cost of the bike).
We went to see In Bruges the other week, one of the funniest movies I’ve seen in a long time. I’m going to get it on DVD when it comes out. Also been playing Ninja Gaiden II, a little bit repetitive, but so satisfying to be able to slice up those ninja’s with 10 different weapon options.
doing nothing
So I still haven’t fixed the stupid sidebar thing; and it hasn’t magically fixed itself, but I’m used to it now so it doesn’t really bother me that I have a dodgy site. I had my wisdom teeth out in the holidays, which wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be. Still hurt, but I didn’t puke up blood or anything. I was heaps hungry for the week after though which was a bit strange. I managed to get through the first 3 resident evil games during that week which was pretty awesome.
I’ve been reading heaps of books, Garth Nix is now in my favourite authors list, although I haven’t read the mister monday series yet.
I’ve also managed to get myself addicted to The Sopranos, a good show if you find yourself wanting something to watch.
We went to see Taken last night. Liam Neeson is way cooler than Matt Damon.
The new layout is having some problems, and i’m sick of trying to work it out. The sidebar was ok, until Jess made me upgrade to the new wordpress, then they got all mixed up and I still haven’t fixed the comment input box.. other than that I like my boring new layout.
We went to see Sweeney Todd yesterday. I didn’t actually realise it was a musical until it started. At first I was a little worried about Depp’s singing abilities, but he picked it up after My Friends. The only one that wasn’t really up to it was Helena Bonham Carter, who plays Mrs Lovett. Some songs she sung ok, but I think they could have done better. She does look the part though and her acting was great, it was just the singing that wasn’t that good, and considering its a musical…
Other than that I loved it, it was actually quite funny, and I came out wishing that I had one of those fancy looking razors that he uses.
ignore the new layout
am playing around because I am so bored. Dont come back for a couple of days, I should be sick of it by then.
